Michaella Matthews, LMSW

Greenpoint & Telehealth location

Adults, children, & Adolescents

Taking the first step to begin therapy can be very difficult; I applaud you for your bravery and practicing this courageous act of self love. I feel honored to walk this path with you. The core of my therapeutic approach is based in compassion and collaboration where we will jointly explore all parts of you and become curious about unconscious patterns, behaviors and ways of thinking.

I strongly believe that we all have an incredible innate ability within ourselves to heal. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space that promotes self-acceptance, self-love, healing and personal growth. My approach is that of warmth, humor and empathy. I incorporate socio-cultural considerations in our work together exploring the systems which play a role in your growth.

My approach is trauma-informed and strength-based rooted in relational, attachment and psychodynamic theories. I specialize in a number of issues such as attachment, depression, anxiety, communication/relationship issues, coping skills, grief and death, life transitions, sexual abuse, stress, trauma/PTSD, and women's issues.

Michaella Matthews, LMSW received her BS in Social Work at the University of Vermont and her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Hunter College. She has training in trauma-focused CBT, DBT/ Mindfulness, ACT, and IFS therapy. She has prior experience providing case management across various setting as well as working at a community mental health center with adults. Michaella also has experience facilitating expressive arts groups for teens as well as providing social-emotional groups in a school setting with adolescents.
